The Beach

I discovered today that Caleb's profile picture is now of him surfing.

On that note, I'm going to recount beach day.

On this day, we had to awaken early. Possibly before seven. So, like, really early, not just early by RSI standards. Leila and I awoke. I quickly brushed my teeth and washed my face, by which time she'd managed to get herself awake.

I made a half-hearted attempt at packing a beach bag, then ran to W20 in hopes of getting a few minutes to eat breakfast. It is likely that I ran into Chao along the way, since she and I are frequently breakfast buddies, but I have a vague recollection of rushing along with Gabriel, Leila's little spanish friend, on this particular morning.

I inhaled my breakfast while standing around with my counselor group, waiting for Kareem, who was late as usual, and Leila, whose hair was being difficult.

We then walked to the t-stop. In order for me to give you all a complete impression of how long this takes, I'm going to give mini-bios of a few more members of my counselor group, since that was who I was walking with. We covered a few people here, and now we'll discuss a few more.

Leila and Gabriel: Leila is my roommate, and Gabriel is the roommate of my friend on the eighth floor of my tower (hint: the one who doesn't have a single). They both love skype, although they kicked their addiction somewhat the last couple of weeks. They are from Cataloonya, which is where Barcelona is, and is not actually spelled like that. Leila is so short that her head fits under my chin when we hug. I'm not really sure how tall Gabriel is.

Kareem: Kareem is from Saudi Arabia, and he lives on my floor. He isn't really bothered with rules, so he does things like sneak off campus and buy really expensive laptops when he's supposed to be at mentorship, which our counselor, Keyuri, never yells at him for, because she thinks that all Saudis have connections to the Taliban and she doesn't want to make the wrong people angry.

Veer: Veer has a girlfriend (and she doesn't live in Canada. I said hi to her on skype once. It was fun). He actually rarely talks about her, so it's silly to introduce him as such, but whatever. Veer is Indian and occasionally accuses other Indians of acting white. I didn't really talk to him that much, to be perfectly honest, so I can't give you much better than that.

That's good enough for a wait, I think.

I most likely talked to Arthur and Dawson during the walk, because I tend to do that, but regardless, we eventually arrived, and met the other counselor groups, then took the tube to...

A BOAT!!! WE GOT TO RIDE A BOAT!!!!

It's really remarkable that I still get excited about these sorts of things, considering the number of boats I've been on in my life.

I stood between Dawson and Bing (Bing is a guy) for the ride over, and I have vague recollections of talking about Arkansas, then learning that, contrary to my previously held belief, Singapore is an island. Who knew?

We got off of the ferry, and, soon thereafter, Ashley (male), James (male), and Chao (female) gathered together a Contact-playing group, and we got so intent on our game that we missed the first ferry.

When the second ferry came, a "particularly smart" group of us decided to wait in the shade until the last possible second to get on the ferry. Naturally, it was full, and the five of us got stuck on the island.

We wandered off to a grassy area and, of course, played more contact. I also got my first semi-explanation of what Starcraft is from James while Ash was looking for some sticks to turn into sandcastle building tools. I also got to lead my first round of contact; I used magnolia as my word, screwing over my science-geek friends who couldn't get magnets out of their heads, although Bing eventually figured me out.

An hour later, we boarded the ferry and went to island number two. Here, at last, was the beach.

I swam, first with Nicholas and Gopika, who spent the entire time attacking each other, because Nicholas derives some great enjoyment from stealing her stuff, then with Bing, who declared the water to be rather chilly, and then with Kareem, Nicholas and a few others who were trying to play beach volleyball in chest high water with a soccer ball.

Then, of course, it came time for frisbee. It was still warm out, so I figured I'd just play in a swimsuit--it wasn't until I'd walked all the way up the great big hill and started playing that I realized that Nicholas and Livny were the only other ones in just swimsuits.

Gopika and I, naturally, took a moment to discuss Livny's shirtless state.

Gopika: Livny has bigger boobs then I do.

Tea: Me, too. Although, yours are bigger than mine, so I suppose that's just a logical continuation.

Gopika: I'm not sure they are, I think it's just the combination of the swimsuit and the dress.

Tea: You're still plenty sexy and curvaceous.

At the last line, Luther (big Chinese guy) turned around and gave us the absolute dirtiest look, so we dissolved into hysterics.

We played frisbee for a bit more, and I borrowed Dawson's spare shirt so I felt a little more comfortable, then uncomfortably returned it with some various interesting wet spots left by my bathing suit.

When walking back down to the beach with Gopika, I ran into Arthur, and I recounted our little tale and Luther's shocked reaction. Gopika said I'd probably gone into too much detail, and Arthur said it was funny, but still awkward.

Then he promptly forgot the entire event, and a while later, when he heard mention of some awkwardness that had occurred involving Gopika and I at the beach, he bombarded me with instant messages asking what the hell it was, and insisting that I hadn't told him anything at all.

Anyways, back to the beach: it rained copiously, so we hid in the main building and played more Contact, which is, as I've said, the best game ever. Then, rain and all, we went on the ferry and rode back to shore.

Gaea tried to talk me into coming on some dinner trip with her, then changed her mind at the last minute because she was apparently avoiding someone on said trip.

Instead, we went back to W20, and I stood around with her, Maxwell and Abe and tried to decide what to order for dinner. Then Abe hug-attacked me, and then Gaea licked me, so I freaked out and went to eat with other people. No pizza for Tea.

Orientation

for SHP (which is back on! Wooot!)

In the morning, Mom dropped me off at the station. I waited by myself for a while, pacing in figure eights (or infinity signs) primarily out of boredom. Then, I looked over towards the station. I wasn't wearing my glasses, so everything looked a bit blurry, but I saw someone who looked a lot like Cormac. I tilted my head sideways and squinted, trying to decide if it was him or not. He turned his head sideways to imitate me, so I figured it must be him and said hello. It turns out he's taking a theater class on Saturdays until January, so he'll be on the train most mornings, which is most definitely good news. It's amazing how much faster the rides feel when you're talking to somebody.

I took a cab by myself from the station, since Archie and Helga had taken the earlier train for fear of being late. I was still early, though, so I went and got a delicious cranberry muffin from Nussbaum and Wu, the only deli I've ever been to that sells both sushi and baked goods. I went to Pupin to get my class assignment (cytoskeleton, which Melissa is in as well) and checked a few other people's (Ariadne is in nano, Irving in complex calculus, and Mario in psych) before heading to the orientation for returning students. I found Allana, a friend from last year, who was sitting in the back along with a bunch of Asian guys and one white guy who looked vaguely familiar but I couldn't remember the name of so introduced myself to anyways. We laughed about the ridiculous number of lost looking Asian kids with maps running around outside looking for Havemeyer. Then, the actual speech started.

I paid attention for the first few minutes until I heard the signature four beeps my phone makes upon getting a text message. I then spent five minutes digging through my bag for my phone before I found it and opened it up. I had a new message from Caleb. "Is that you in front of me? I think it is, but I don't want to awkwardly say hi to someone I don't know." I turned around and waved at him before unsuccessfully attempting to continue to listen to the lecture.

Lazy

am I. Tired am I. Yoda am I.

I was going to post a clip from glee, but, unfortunately, I can't find it.

So, Tea and Caleb converse

Caleb: what course are u doing?

Tea: hopefully cytoskeleton

Caleb:o boy

that course was...interesting to say the least

Tea: hmm

that's not good?

Caleb: the teacher is a nutjob

Tea: gaaaahhh

Caleb: it wasn't bad

Tea: did you learn much?

Caleb: just straight lecture though

Tea: I don't mind that

so long as it's intersting

Caleb: i kinda didn't pay much attention

and it requries looking at pics of diseased people

Tea: ewww

I have issues with diseased people

there's a reason I decided to do shp instead of mrt training

Caleb: ?

mrt?

Tea: medical response technician?

I think

they work on ambulances

what are you signed up for?

Caleb: IDK

Tea: haha

Caleb: bacteriology or black holes?

Tea: bacteriology is AWESOME

ahem

just saying

Caleb: really?

what makes it AWESOME?

Tea: if was fun!

it

not if

it was about an hour of lecture

then a lot of waiting for gels to run

and centrifuges

to

uh

centrifugate

Caleb: hmm

interesting

Tea: and we got food the last day

i like oreos

a lot

they're delicious

Caleb: ooo organic chem is fun

all we do is hang out in a lab

and we got food EVERYDAY!

Tea: yeah

but you don't learn anything!

Caleb: u took it?

Tea: no

but that's what ______ and ______ said

Caleb: o

haha

that's what i said too

Tea: and you then smile.tif

but still...it was totally worth it

Caleb: i burned myself badly in that class

Tea: why?

ouch.

how?

Caleb: i was retarded

because i didn't realize that after placing a beaker on the flame, it would get hot

i put it on the table w/ forceps

...and then proceed to pick it up w/ my hand

Tea: ow

at least you didn't try to put out something that caught on fire by dumping it in ethanol

Caleb: o genius

nah i used gasoline

Tea: much more effective, that

someone did that in bacteriology last semester

though

and the whole beaker went up in flames

it was really really cool

Caleb: ...

u use fire in bacteriology?

Tea: to sterilize stuff!

we have bunson burners lit at ALL TIMES

Caleb: WHOA

im totally gonna take it now

do we work in lab groups?

Tea: brb

haha

yes

kind of

we pick

lab partner

s

but then people don't show up

so I worked with a couple of girls on one table

and then one week they both didn't show

so I basically moved permenantly to another table and worked with someone else

but yes

it is all groups

oh and haha about taking it now

so, in what way is the cyto teacher scary?

I want to be prepared

Caleb: well..she's SO energetic

and LOUD

Tea: sounds like my little sister

Caleb: u'd expect her to hop away

Tea: ?

Caleb: o and she has an incredibly short attention span

Tea: eh

whatever

I'm sure I'll manage

it beats a painfully long attention span

anyways

this whole conversation was full of long, excruciating pauses. Then, after this, he just STOPPED RESPONDING. Jerk.

then we just stopped talking. it's odd.

Famiglia

is here. Cousin, cousin, and aunt. I don't really have time to post. One of them is currently brushing her teeth, and I'm next in the bathroom. Then my teeth will be clean.

I went to the dentist today.

Oh, and I dreamt that I ate dinner with Caleb, his parents, and his little sister at their house, but it looked like my house. We ate fishsticks made of chicken and fried rice. Then it turned into Avon's house, and we looked for her shoes.

Desperation

hullos

without the s

and with an e

instead of a u

9:09pmCaleb

hey

9:09pmTea

i can't type

at all

9:10pmCaleb

i can see that

9:10pmTea

you are the most sporadic conversationalist ever, by the way

you start writing everyday for like, a week

and then stop

and I forget about you, again

and now you're online

and I'm like

"DUDE! he totally stopped talking to me! wtf?"

except

like

in my head

9:11pmCaleb

well i only write when i have something to say

9:11pmTea

that's probably a good method

I lack that skill

I kind of just write

and write

and write

9:11pmCaleb

i can see that

9:11pmTea

similarly to how I talk and talk and talk

well, most of the time

not all the time

and I don't know where this sentence is going

of course, it's really an incomplete sentence

and

I'll just, um, shut up now

9:12pmCaleb

that's nice

go on AIM if you want to rant to me

9:12pmTea

hmmm

okay

I'm not even sure I have anything to rant about

to be honest

caleb: that's nice

tea:how was ur day?

caleb: boring

tea: ohmy dog is kind of dying and the blood is grossing me out so I've been hiding in my room

and I barely do anything

celeb:...ur dog is KINDA dying?

tea: just, like, procrastinate patent work

well

last time it happened

he went into remission

maybe he will again

maybe he won't

caleb: cancer?

tea: he was given a month to live a year aho

ago

and yes, nasal cancer

it's awful

bloody nose, everywhere!

caleb:that totally sucks

tea: yeah

that just about sums it up

caleb: how old is ur dog?

tea: 9

or 10

I'm not sure

which is pretty old

for his breed

but

it's still sad

we've had him since he was a puppy

caleb: yea it is

tea: but to be honest, I'm not THAT sad

shouldn't I be crying or something?

like, I know that I should be sad

so I kind of am

but I'm also kind of like

AAAAAHHHHH BLOOODDDD

so then I feel bad

and gahhh

I'm sorry for making you read this

although

for all I know

you aren't actually reading

just like, half paying attention

caleb: i am totally reading

tea: and oh

I appreciate it

caleb: np

tea: haha

how's your science thing going?

caleb: boringly

tea: aww

por que?

aka why?

caleb: because i sit in an office

tea: ooooh

offices

caleb: and take a water sample once an hour

tea: sounds.....exciting

caleb: for like 8 hours straight

tea: what do you do the rest of the time?

just sit there?

I see how that could get rather repetitive

it may even be worse than gardening

which is what my mom makes me do every now and again

caleb:lol

tea: okay

I think I'm ranted out, at this point

thank you

caleb: that's nice

tea: is that your catchphase?

caleb: i think u need some friends

...like some REAL friends

tea: ass

I have real friends

but one's in ny

and one's in ny

for a different reason

and another has a broken computer

caleb: oic

there's no need to be so defensive

i was jokin

joking

tea: I get defensive easily

I think it's a symptom of horribly geeky middle school years

which you don't need to hear about

caleb: thank goodness

tea: and, actually, I think I'll call my friend with the broken computer

so, farewell

caleb: bye

-------end of conversation---------

Is it wrong for me to start conversations with him for the sole purpose of being able to write blog posts about it, because absolutely nothing of note is happening in my own life, so I feel the need to try to dredge something of interest from the lives of others? I don't know.

July 2, 2009

What happens when Tea is on gchat and nobody else is

is that she attacks her friends with long, intense monologues, like the one below. Be forewarned, I discuss grossness possibly on par with the tampon lesson.

VICKYYY

why (YYY) are you never online when you totally should be?

hmph

I'm going to tell you a story about facebook and mario, then

in hopes that you come online

and give me advice

before Nyx does

okay

so

remember my blog post

about my little cousins

Kat and May?

so

I may have possibly told mario that story

on facebook

well

i did

I wrote the following

"my little cousins were flipping through my facebook friends a few minutes ago, and they started arguing about you. Kat, who is 10, declared that you are "omigawd, so hot!" and the eight year old, may, said "no! he is not cute at all!" I told them I didn't need their opinions on the looks of all of my facebook friends, so they finally ran off.
Just thought you would find that entertaining. Did you hear if anyone got into the SHP for next year?"

then

a day and a half later (at almost midnight) mario finally wrote backk

"its too bad kat is only 10 years old...just kidding. as far as I know only Irving was accepted. keep me posted"

and that was tuesday night

so I really need to come up with a good response

asap

"I should berate you for making a joke like that about my cousin, but it was funny enough that I won't. Besides, she'd probably get mad at you herself, since she's at a point in time where she thinks boys have cooties (although she finds nothing wrong with devising elaborate plans she thinks I should be asking you out with. Weird kid). And I'm not surprised that Irving got in, but when you say "only irving" do you mean that he'sthe only one you asked, or the only one who got in?"

that's what I have so far

but

well

is that too long of a response? He always comes back with like two sentences, and I don't know how to be more succinct.Or should I cut the bit about Kat's elaborate schemes or no, because they are actually pretty funny. And, and,and

gahhh

I'm so bad at this

this is worse than when I was talking to caleb

and

VICKYYYY

if you don't come back soon

I'm going to share a gross medical story

actually

I think I might just post it on my blog

I'm trying to decide

It's kind of a funny story

see, I have/had this weird little mole thing on my right boob

and one time

it got yellow and it hurt

so i squeezed it and pus came out

it was exciting

anyways

it only appeared in february

so I told my doctor

and she said i should get it checked out by a dermatologist

which I'm going to on tuesday

but anyways

it hurt again today

so I squeezed it

and this weird thing came out

it was all hard, like a rock, but really small

like the size of one of those little glass/plastic beads

the teeny tiny ones

so I wrapped up in a towel, and went to show my parents the weird thing

cause my dad works on an ambulance

and is good with medical sturr

stuff

and he was like

"that's really weird. I have no idea"

so I showed it to mom

and she said to save it

and bring it to the dermatologist on tuesday

so now I have a weird thingy

in a plastic container

on my bed

and on tuesday

I get to go to the dermatologist

and be like

"this thing came out of my boob"

that'll be fun

and

yeah

sorry

if you didn't want to hear that

cause it was fairly disgusting

and

oh!

O

I'll see you tomorrow!!!!

I'm excited

and

I

will

stop

no

w

now

i mean

yeah

byeeee
